ACT III: GIRL IN THIS TOWN

The inspiration for the third part of this project emerged while I was curating a gallery to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. It featured an engaging presentation, creatively revisiting my past IG posts, and included the powerful Spanish fragment “Por cada mujer hay un hombre” by Luis Bonino, Dani Leal, Jose Ángel Lozoya, and Péter Szil. This combination of past reflections and profound literary work added depth and resonance to the project.

“Difficult Women” by Roxane Gay served as a profound inspiration for the creation of “GIRL IN THIS TOWN.” This book accompanied me on a journey from Madrid to the Canary Islands and through the charming locales of Hungary. Along the way, it sparked magical moments and deep discussions with diverse groups of people, enriching our understanding and connection to its powerful themes.

This book invited me to deeply empathize with its stories, changing my perspective on many attitudes. It was so impactful that I couldn’t keep it to myself. It compelled me to weave its essence into my own ideas within the complex world of “A Pies Descalzos.”

If the first visual piece, “No,” offers a subtle glimpse into the essence of this book, then the video titled “(con) TACTO 16” presents an explicit narrative through a captivating combination of lights and movement. This creation was made possible thanks to the collaboration with Duoarmonia, talented teachers from the Anuadance school, who brought their expertise and artistry to the heart of this concept.

Every storytelling needs an interlude, and “KATRINA” serves as the perfect bridge between “No” and the forthcoming “(con) TACTO 16.” It features a powerful speech from women around the world, their voices resonating together in harmony with the mesmerizing melodies of the incredible artist Kai Engel.
